The EPRI wave energy feasibility demonstration project has selected the Pelamis as one of the technologies for design, performance, cost, and economic assessment (Bedard et al. 2005). Wave Star aim to make it the first series-produced 1 MW machine for big oceans, ready for sale in 2017. Wave Star is not stopping there though. The machine will then be doubled in size, capable of handling twice the wave height. This will increase each machine’s output to 6 MW, enabling a single machine to provide energy for 4,000 homes.

Sweden has recently started the construction of world’s largest commercial wave energy array at Sotenas. It will incorporate 42 devices and deliver 1.05 MW of capacity. The European nation, slightly larger than Rajasthan, has also installed a second project in Ghana, consisting of 6 devices, providing 400 KW of total capacity.

Det finns idag ett flertal olika sätt för att klassificera dessa lösningar som brukar kallas för WEC vilket står för Wave energy converters (vågenergikonverterare).

The facility consists of 36 wave energy converters (WECs), with a total installed capacity of nearly 3 MW. The generators are located at a depth of 50 m (160 ft). As per Seabased, the project would deliver electricity at approximately 10 cents per kWh. The Sotenäs Wave Energy Project is an ambitious initiative consisting of a total of 420 novel energy capturing buoys. When finally completed, the giant €25 million park will provide a total output of about 10 MW, installed over an area of some 0.8 km 2 - making it the largest full-scale demonstration project of its kind anywhere in the world, as well as the first ever multiple unit wave power plant. Sotenäs wave energy plant, developed by Seabased with Fortum and Swedish Energy Agency, comprises 36 Seabased’s wave energy converters with a total capacity of 10 MW. The first 1 MW of the wave energy farm was connected to the Swedish national grid late in December 2015, following the installation of 120 tonnes subsea generator. Created with Sketch.
